We went to see my dad yesterday. I had received a phone call the night before at 23:30 from the nursing home that they had taken him to the hospital. They thought that he had had a stroke. (beroerte) When I phoned yesterday morning he was back in his room and was sleeping as he had been at the hospital untill 5:00. He had had a cat scan but they could not find anything. Just his blood pressure was down. When we got there he was sleeping. Missy woke him up. He seemed to be OK but later we noticed that he was having a little bit of a problem with some of his words. He wanted to get out of bed so with his wheelchair we went to Tante Tina. She did not know about his problem and was quite surprised. She also had a problem that morning. She said that it was a breathing problem but Rennie thinks it may have been her heart. It has been very humid & hot here. After ½ hour she was getting very tired so we left. Dad also wanted to go back to bed and then we left. He likes it very much in the new home and seems to be doing quite well. He has gained some weight and also his colour seems much better. I know when you get that old life becomes a constant struggle. We know that dad is ready to go but we are not ready to let him go.

Oei, wat een drukte bij jullie.
Het lijkt wel of jullie het nu nog drukker hebben dan toen je nog in de zaak was.
Als je met pensioen bent hoor je het toch juist rustiger aan te doen?
Gaat het met jezelf ook goed dan? Wel zin in je vakantie?
Klein beetje werkvakantie, maar toch?!
Wij hebben net een frisse bui gehad, geen dikke onweersbuien, die er voorspeld waren.
Nu staan alle deuren en ramen open om te proberen een beetje koele lucht binnen te krijgen. Wil toch wel graag kunnen slapen vannacht.
Ik heb het ook druk, probeer de tuin bij te houden en gewoon alles in huis. Ik word zelfs 'handig' met de boormachine, grasmaaier en heggeschaar....
De kinderen helpen ook als het nodig is en ik ga naar musicals, verjaardagen, ballonnenfestivals en reünies. Genoeg te doen dus......

She is our only paid employee. All the rest of the staff are christian volunteer workers. We need aproximatelt 100 - 130 volunteers to make this operation work. Rennie is the head of the volunteer department. Also we starting something new in London. We will have a baling machine which will bale surplus clothes. The cloth has to be of certain quality which is then baled and when we have enough bales we load them into a container which is sent overseas to Ghana. This is then distributed to christian micro businesses. Mostly ladies which will re-use this material and make things such as umbrellas for example. Formerly this material was going through 5 different hands making it very expensive for these businesses. We will be shipping it direct to them. If it works we will get different BFM stores to work with us as well. We will be the 40th BFM store in Canada.
Also we hope to go to the east coast again this summer. Rennie has to be in Quebec City on August 20 - 23. Since we are half way there, we thought lets go all the way.
Anyway thats all for now. I'm (Jack) am still helping Chad with some work for the business. I have to get that finished now.

Finally a nice warm summer day for you in Gr. Here it has been very hot & dry. The farmers are really complaining. It has been around 30 - 34°F for the last weeks. Also the humidity is high so that it feels to be around 40°. We finally had a thunder shower this morning but not nearly enough rain.
We hope things are OK over there, even your blog site is very slow. I (Jack) have been very busy with being a project manager for the Bibles for Mission Thrift store. Presently things are somewhat slower while waiting for the engineers to finish their work. Then I have to go to the City of London for a building permit. Also then we have to tender for a general contractor to do the work. At first we were only going to do work on the inside but after we started to replace the roof we became aware that all the entrances to the stores in the mall were rotten so now we are also going to re-do the exterior of the building. Very costly but very exciting as well. It is a challenge for me because I have never done anything this large. A total of almost $4.5 million. This includes buying the mall ($3.5 M) and $800,000.00 worth of renovations. If all goes well we hope to open the store October 1st. We have hired a store manger. She and her husband are both Wesleyian ministers. Her husband is doing a church plant here in London. She has managed a Bibles for Mission store in Kingston which is very successful.

First of all before I forget, thank you very much for the cards! Beautiful memories! Also sad Jack's birthday card was terrific also! You look like you had a great time with Henk and Rinette. Would have loved to be there with you.

Visited him last Friday. Dad is really improving, starting to gain a bit of weight back. Tante Tina looks after him. She says she sometimes just stops by to check on him and he doesn't even know she's been there because he is sleeping, and she doesn't tell him. He doesn't have to know everything!

Dank je voor de melding.
Heb vandaag de zus van Jan kunnen bereiken.
Vandaag was ook de bgrafenis, heb ik begrepen.
Ik heb mijn ouders gebeld. Die hadden vroeger heel veel contact met Jan.
Is wel erg schrikken hoor. Zo plotseling en zo'n moeilijk leven gehad. Wat een zorg!
Ik hoop dat ze als familie de zorg en de troost van de Here mogen ervaren.

Hebben jullie voor mij het nieuwe adres van oom Arend? En dan ook graag van tante Tina, kan ik die ook weer eens een kaart sturen......
Is het al wat rustige at Hyde Park Road? Jullie moeten nu toch van je rust genieten??
Nou ja, misschien komt dat nog es voor je een oud ...... bent

Tried to send this yesterday but somehow it doesn't seem to have stayed.
On Sunday afternoon Jan William Wubs the oldest son on Jan and Gerda was killed in a car accident. He was by himself and seems to have lost control and was thrown from his vehicle. Very sad as he has been in out of rehab for alcoholism several times and had just moved in with his parents. He was actually in church Sunday morning. We had not seen him for years.

Jack's dad is now in the same nursing home as Tante Tina. He is starting to do much better! I think they see each other every day, very good for both of them. After we switched doctors in the hospital they gave him a thorough check up and found out that he not only had COPD but also a lung desease. She said that he would not be able to have a further operation because his lungs and heart are not good enough to go under anesthetic again. He is on oxygen all the time now and dad is OK with that.
Jack's knee was doing very good but with all the work he is doing at the store both knees are giving him quite a bit of trouble. Hopefully that will get better after this week.
We got Rubens card the same day as yours, very nice. Now we have their address also.

Whowee! Finally a quiet evening. We went camping last weekend with the same group as we have for years. Great weekend! Great weather! I left for Toronto on Tuesday and arrived home on Friday afternoon. Very busy with lots of meetings for CMHC. We did a tour of some buildings and one was a 42 story highrise that was not finished. We took the construction elevator all the way to the top floor which had no outside walls yet. Two of the girls got so sick that they took the stairs all the way down. Two sets of stairs for every floor. Meanwhile Jack was super busy at the store, working long hours and still had to go to consistory meeting and one night of home visit. He is very sore and aching. He is hoping to have the place cleaned out in the next week, than he can hire trades to do the rest. He will still be busy because he needs to organize them but it won't be physical. Yesterday we had all the kids over for his birthday except for Tim, who was working. He works in a market on Saturdays, starts at 6.30 to 8.00. Long day but he loves it. We had a beautiful day together. Even had Tante Janny out. Lisa picked her up but her airconditioning wasn't working and she had to pick up Natalie from a birthday party on the way. They got stuck in traffic so by the time they got here Tante Janny wasn't feeling well. We managed to get her to a chair in the shade and after a while she started to feel better. Not sure if we'll get her to come again.
